ciXwin: X Server for Windows with Connection Wizard
ciXwin is an X Server implementation for Windows systems that includes a connection wizard for simplified setup and use. It packages the X Window System together with Cygwin and a set of supporting tools, providing a standalone solution that is ready to use out of the box.
X Window System is an architecture-independent system for graphical user interfaces and input handling, commonly used on Unix and Unix-like operating systems. It enables applications to run on one machine while displaying their graphical interface on another.
To run X on Windows, ciXwin relies on Cygwin, which provides a Linux-like runtime environment through a POSIX-compatible DLL and a collection of standard Unix tools. X support within Cygwin is maintained by the Cygwin/X project, which focuses specifically on bringing X functionality to the Cygwin platform.
By combining these components with a guided connection setup, ciXwin makes it easier to access and display remote Unix graphical applications on Windows systems.
